Biomedical engineering is interdisciplinary in outlook, involving many different people from a variety of fields.
Our faculty serve to facilitate the applications of engineering and science to the study of medical problems through excellence in teaching and research.
Congratulations to Dr. Robert Burrell for receiving the prestigious 2009 EnCana Principal Award from the Ernst C Manning Awards Foundation for his research and development of the silver nanocrystalline wound dressing Acticoat™, a product marketed in more than 40 countries.
Acticoat™, which is anti-inflammatory in addition to being antibacterial, has become the dressing of choice for burns and chronic wounds, having saved countless lives and reduced patient pain and suffering.
Congratulations to Dr. Robert Burrell who received this year's Engineering Materials Achievement Award from the Board of Trustees, ASM International in Pittsburg, USA, for "the development of technology and manufacturing methods for silver based nano-structured antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory coatings with significant and wide ranging clinical and patient benefits".
